Militarisation of Health Care Systems in the Netherlands and in Germany

Open Lecture and Discussion
Militarisation has become a central political issue across Europe, and many governments are investing heavily in military spending. Large amounts of public money are going into defence – and are and will be missing in the health sector. Using the Netherlands and Germany as examples, we aim to show how, on the one hand, militarisation is transforming the healthcare system and, on the other hand, how militarization and rearmament are leading to a shortage of funds for public services, including the healthcare system. We will discuss the implications for patients and staff, as well as ways of resisting these changes.
